USA Today Highlights FBBF Pastor

Ron Williams is the pastor of Church at the GYM in Sanford, Fla. As the Baptist church's name implies, Williams' congregation meets in a gym.

Williams says the goal is to remove the "stained-glass barriers" for people who might not be comfortable in traditional church settings.

"I think all the trappings of traditional religion can make it difficult for people to start coming," he said. "You can invite someone, and they will say, 'I don't have any clothes to wear to church.' "

To make people feel more comfortable, Williams wears jeans. In the warm Florida climate, some members wear shorts. Other clothing types, from urban wear to biker gear, also are welcome. Sanford native Sandy Adcox, 38, had not been to church in 18 years before she attended Church at the GYM last March. She hasn't missed a service since.

"I've never in my life felt more comfortable in a church," she said. "It's so warm and welcoming."

Seth Mulford has ministered as the youth director on staff at Grace Bible Baptist – Leesburg, FL since August 2003. Our services will begin promptly at 11 a.m. with Dale Hardy, pastor of the Lighthouse Baptist Church in Lake Mary. Tim Green will be speaking next and sharing with us how God has transitioned him into a new ministry. We will close with one of our champions of the faith, Rudy Johnson.

Somewhere around 12:30-1:00 p.m. we will be serving a wonderful lunch that our ladies have put together. Dear Pastor,

We are honored to host the Pastor's Fellowship Meeting here at Orlando Baptist Church on October 10, 2011. "Step Out of the Boat" will be the exciting theme for our church going into this Fall season and the New Year. We will be sharing some of the things God is doing here and what we are doing for the days ahead. I am thinking it may encourage or inspire you for your days ahead in your church

ministry.

Here is what our day with you will look like. We want preaching that will encourage us in our calling as ministers, information and material that will help us to be more effective as preachers, a time of great fellowship and a desire to "Step Out of the Boat" in some area of our life and ministry.

Here's how you can help make this happen:
1.Come to the meeting. It will not be the same without you here. Please come and fellowship with us.

2.Bring a pastor who doesn't normally or often come to the meetings. We will make him feel welcomed and enjoy the fellowship with him.

Speaker Bios

Jimmy Scroggins is the Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church West Palm Beach. He has served there since July 2008. Before coming to First Baptist, Jimmy served as the Teaching Pastor at Highview Baptist Church in Louisville, Kentucky, and Professor of Youth Ministry and Evangelism at Southern Seminary and Boyce College in Louisville. He also served as Dean of Boyce College from 2004-2008. Jimmy and his wife, Kristin, have 8 children – James 15, Daniel 13, Jeremiah 11, Isaac 10, Stephen 8, Anna Kate 6, Mary Claire 4, and Caleb, 2.

Don Richardson began his walk with the Lord at a Youth For Christ rally in 1952. Both he and his late wife, Carol Joy [Soderstrom], graduated from Prairie Bible Institute, Alberta, and completed training at Wycliffe's Summer Institute of Linguistics. Don is the father of four grown children, all serving the Lord. Following the passing of his first wife in early 2004, Don wed Carol Joyce Abraham of Bend, Oregon in July 2005. Carol's ministry includes speaking to women's groups, music solos, teaching, and hospitality. Don has written 5 best-selling books.

Since 1977 Don has served as "Minister-at-Large" for World Team. He is an ordained pastor and holds an honorary doctorate of literature from Biola University. He speaks at more than 40 missions conferences per year and has spoken in all 50 U.S. states and in 36 countries. In addition, Don is a frequent instructor in a course called "Perspectives on the World Christian Movement" and on various college and seminary campuses.

Daniel Webster, a family man and small-business owner, has dedicated himself to serve the citizens of Central Florida with honor and integrity. During his tenure in office, he has proven himself to be a true statesman, standing by his principles and steadily advancing conservative values. Daniel Webster has been celebrated and endorsed by nearly every respected conservative leader with whom he has worked to inspire change. He has been heralded as a responsible advocate with the ability to deliver on his promise. Webster proudly acknowledges his faith, his family, and his principles as his greatest assets. "I'm a Pastor's Wife"

That little group of words has got to be at the top of my list - "words I thought I'd never say"! It humbles me to my core. Living life under this new name is teaching me lessons I wasn't expecting and I am so grateful for it. Just a few of the things God is teaching....

I can still be me!
Being real makes all the difference in the world.
It's not all about me!
Giving council keeps me on my knees.
Encouraging others to go deeper with God makes me take inventory in my life.
I am not perfect...

God doesn't expect me to be!
A smile and a hug go a long way.
Respect for my husband has grown immensely.
Praying for him is more important with each passing day.

Leading by word is easy...
Leading by action takes effort.
God is using my past to minister to others and it's beautiful.
I don't have to have all the answers, sometime I just need to stop and listen.

I pray that my heart would stay close to the Lord, that my humility would remain in tact, and that I would be sensitive to the moving of the Spirit with willing hands to serve when prompted. It is beautiful that God has brought us here and I desire to draw even nearer to Him through this new journey.
Lord, this is Your work and all that is accomplished here is to Your glory alone. I am humbled that you use me. Thank you for walking with me. I pray that my eyes would remain fixed on You, that I would not grow cold to the people around me, and that I would be found faithful to Your calling. It is only through Your strength any of that is possible. I love you!

The Lord giveth and ......thieves take away. Can we still say BLESSED BE THE NAME OF THE LORD? Dan woke up a few Saturdays ago to find his car gone - - taken right out of our driveway during the night. If you've ever had anything stolen - a purse, wallet, or even your car - you know the feeling of being violated, the anxious feeling and fear of what could happen next. It makes us angry, makes us look over our shoulders and leads us to take more precautions, (I bought a Club for my car!). But we also realize that God has blessed us with all we have and it belongs to Him, not us. I am thankful they only took the car and did not come into our home and harm my family. I am thankful they took the car with no one in it, instead of a carjacking when I had the grandchildren with me. Yes, it has been an inconvenience and yes, Dan and Jonathan lost their golf clubs, bowling balls and shoes and tennis rackets, but we can still say Blessed be the name of the Lord for his protection and provision.

Meet Beverly Hunter....

I was privileged to be born into a godly pastor's home in northern Michigan. At age 5, I prayed to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as my Savior. At age 12, I made assurance of my salvation. I had the honor to be in a Christian school from Kindergarten through 12th grade. The summer of my junior year of high school I prayed and asked the Lord to send me "the man" I was to eventually marry. God says in His Word, "ask and ye shall receive..." The Lord did just that! Thomas Hunter came to my school that year. We began dating October of 1990 and 5 years later we were married. God called us to Ft. Lauderdale to work with the youth for 11 years. God blessed us with four beautiful children: Madysen (13), Kasie (11), Tommy (9) and Ally (5). Now God has entrusted us with Plantation Baptist Church where we have served for 6 years. We truly love and praise Him for His bountiful blessings. In Proverbs 3:5-6 it says, "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all they ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct they paths."

Our meeting will be August 8 in Plantation. Plan to come with your husband and see the great work God is doing. Enjoy some fellowship with other Pastor's wives.

WORDS OF WISDOM

*Prayer is not a "spare wheel" that you pull out when in trouble. It is a "steering wheel" that directs the right path throughout.

*Why is a car's windshield so large and the rear view mirror so small? Because our past is not as important as our future. So, look ahead and move on.

*When God solves your problems, you have faith in His abilities; when God doesn't solve your problems, He has faith in your abilities.

BBC - Presidential Forum

Good evening Pastors,

A few months ago I took a trip to BBC with a small group of guys including our youth pastor, worship pastor and three prospective students. What a great trip. From the time we arrived, John Slayden, and his team, welcomed us and made us feel they were very interested in us. Our students stayed in the dorms and had a blast. My staff guys spoke in various classes and felt it was a great time of connecting with some very sharp students. As a matter of fact, they went back to the dorms for hours in the evening with a large group of students, talking ministry. I had the opportunity to speak in chapel and I was blown away and blessed at the same time by the awesome worship service. The band was not only talented but full of ministry and it came through in the chapel service. The receptivity of the students, to the message, was encouraging. The President, and many of the professors, were obviously plugged in to all that was happening. I left BBC this trip far more excited about where the school is and where it is going than I have ever been. It is a school I would like many of our students to attend.

Recently Rob Hoffman called and asked if we would host a half-day event at our church for pastors and staff who would be interested in hearing and seeing a report on where BBC is going. This will be informational and I am sure, inspirational. We will hear and be able to ask questions. I am glad to host the day and I wanted to send this email to a few of you who I think have some of the sharpest kids and a great philosophy of ministry to ask you to please try and come for this brief day. This is not a fund raising event. It could be a beginning for some of us to again send our kids with confidence to BBC and get back, in return, the graduates we dream of having.

The meeting will be, Tuesday, August 2nd from 10:00 am - 12:30 pm, and then we will break for lunch and fellowship following the meeting. Please take a minute, and call or email me, and let me know if you can come and who you will bring. I hope you can bring your key staff who influence your students.

I love being apastor. God has given each of us a“flock” that we are to feed and care for. We are even held accountable how we do that. When I am planning and contemplating ministryideas it is with the mind and heart of a shepherd. How will this decision affect the sheep? The biggest responsibility we have to ourflock is to feed them. We are alwayscoming to God and asking Him what should be on the menu for a particular day.

We want to know whenit is time to give them dessert and when to give them liver. That is where prayer and study come in. I really enjoy hearing about what you arepreaching to your people. Whether it isa series or an individual message I think it is good to share those things withone another. Every now and then I willget an email from a fellow pastor giving me their outline for the week. Sometimes my preacher friends on FaceBookwill share their topic for the week. Ihate to confess this but I have used some of your outlines from messagespreached at our monthly meetings. Theywere just too good not to share with my people. All of us have been through change - some good; some not so good. We've changed locations, jobs, churches. Some changes are necessary; some are unexpected. It is not always an easy thing to deal with, but how we deal with it will tell a lot about us. Do we accept change gracefully or do we go down kicking and screaming? I have recently started working outside the church (been working outside the home for a while) and it has been a challenge and a big adjustment. There are so many things I miss - the flexibility of working with my husband and being able to leave early to go pick up my grandchildren. I will miss being at the monthly meetings to be with you ladies, too. But I have accepted (almost) the inevitable and pray that as I enter this new mission field I will show the love of Christ to my new co-workers. Pam

Meet Rebecca Carlson...

I was blessed to grow up in a Christian home. Born in SC, I moved from GA to TN and then settled in Central FL at the age of 10. I trusted Christ as my Savior at age 5 and was baptized at age 12. As a teenager I dedicated myself to the Lord to do whatever He wanted of me. And the thing I wanted most of all, even when I was young, was to become the wife of a pastor or a missionary and to become a mother. And being the planner that I am, my plan was - graduate high school, go to college to receive my MRS, begin a family, support my husband and encourage my children, etc. But God had a plan - graduate high school, lean on Him, graduate from college, trust in His timing, teach elementary students, learn His lessons. I met my husband, Scott, when he became my Youth Pastor in 1990. We began dating after I came home from college and started my teaching career in 2001. He, at the time, had become the Assistant Pastor and had taken over the College and Career class (conveniently!). We married the following year. After the first few years of enjoying each other's company we knew that children should start coming into the equation, but none came. Because of our deep desire to have children, we believed that God had plans for our family to expand, so we continued to look toward Him and seek His plan. Just when we thought the door was opening, He shut it and said, "not this way". After a few early miscarriages, we sought medical help. After a few more miscarriages, we bagan researching adoption. This May, we celebrated our 9th anniversary and we have enjoyed 9 wonderful months with our two little boys, Clavin and Connor who were born in 2010.God has blessed us immensely, above and beyond our comprehension and we are so grateful!! Looking back, I think I know why God took me down this path, opening and closing doors. I am a planner; I like having the path lined out step by step and brightly lit. Yet this way leaves no opening to trust God, to see His grace or to receive His blessings. God is also a planner and such a better planner that I. One thing I have learned, yet continually need to be reminded of, is a verse in Isaiah. "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord." (Is. 55:8)

My what a great few days!! I wish you could have all been in Tavares to hear Cinderella Agoubi share her testimony and hear how God has used her to witness to kings of countries. I was humbled as I listened to how she trusted God, ignored nay-sayers and security to reach them. My neighbors don’t have armed guards around them, yet I am hesitant to go tell them about Christ. The store clerk, waitress or receptionist are easily accessible, yet I barely say ‘hi’ much less hand them a tract. I also wish you could have been at the meeting in Miami. How wonderful to hear from two ladies who have allowed God to work through adversity and use them to touch so many lives. Again I was ashamed at the number of times I have complained and argued with God about little things that I thought were too much for me to handle. Yet I have my son to hug and the arms to hug him with and the legs to carry me to him. Forgive me God for being so selfish and petty. Use me to reach out to others and love them to you.

Meet… Cynzia Hardy

I grew up in Michigan attending a small church where my dad worked with the teens. I received Christ as my Savior at the age of 16 and moved to Florida when I was 19. Dale and I met while he was attending Trinity Baptist College in Jacksonville and we were married three months later. When Dale finished school we moved to Gainesville where we met Pastor Bill and Charlotte Bales. We worked with them to establish a church there. We then moved to Arkansas, then to Port Charlotte to work with the Bales again. We have been serving in Lake Mary for three years. I am currently working at a bank. We have three children. Gretchen is an 8th grade teacher at Trinity Christian Academy in Jacksonville, Laurel Anne is a 3rd grade teacher at Metro Christian Academy in Madison, TN and Zachary is in his first year at Trinity and very involved in several different music venues. My favorite verse is Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengtheneth me.”

I personally have found readyseteat.com to be very helpful in finding new recipes. They use common ingredients and give you a variety of choices. You put in your zip code and it will give you the stores in your area that have the needed items on sale.

It's 4:30pm, What's For Dinner?

Have you ever had your kids or husband ask you the infamous question, "what's for dinner?" and you stared back at them with a puzzled look? You have no clue what is even in the fridge or how long it’s been there. Then there is the cost of food. A little over a year and a half ago I was reviewing our expenses from a previous month and was floored by the amount that was spent on dinning out and groceries. I also knew that I hadn't done a very good job at planning meals even though my grocery receipts stated otherwise. Meal planning has been an area I have struggled with since we first were married almost 5 years ago. It wasn't that I didn't want to cook, I just had a hard time planning things that sounded good. I tried cutting coupons for a while and saved all sorts of money on various products, but at the end of the day what am I going to cook with 10 bottles of ketchup and 6 boxes of mac and cheese? Once my daughter came, I felt extremely overwhelmed with trying to raise my family, be a ministry helpmate, work part time, and plan meals. My husband saw me overwhelmed and encouraged me to just do whatever I needed to do to make things work. I dropped the coupon clipping (except for diapers and wipes) and just planned whatever I could. This is when I stumbled upon E-Mealz on Facebook. I visited the website and after some research my husband agreed to take 3 months and $15.00 to try and see if it could work for us. I signed up, and the ease of meal planning and shopping became a burden lifted off my shoulders. Not only that, but it has allowed us to save money on dinning out because we are doing it less. We are actually eating the food we purchased at the store for our meals. E-Mealz is a weekly meal planning subscription that will help you save time and money. The cost is just $1.50 per week, purchased in 3 month plans. There are a variety of meal plans to choose from: "meal plans for 2" for those of us with smaller families and for those who are empty nesters, or "family plans" for families of 4-6. They base their plans on in sale items from stores like Publix, Kroger, Wal-Mart, and ALDI. They also make plans that are for point systems, vegetarian, low carb, low fat, and even gluten free diets. You choose the store and/or meal plan and they give you the plan with a complete aisle by aisle grocery list. Your grocery bill based on the plans typically run around $40-50/week for the couples' plans and $60-80/week for the family plans. I have used E-Mealz for over 6 months and I know it has saved me time and money, not to mention the stress of planning. There is also a program to help you earn money as you promote E-Mealz to your friends and family. One of the other benefits is that it gives me new recipes that I might not have otherwise tried. Everything is very simple to make and typically uses ingredients that you have actually heard of and probably already have at home. Give E-Mealz a try and see for yourself how much time and money you can save.

One Ocean Resort is a gorgeous new 5 star hotel on the ocean in Atlantic Beach. Just two miles from the church. Jax Metro Church used to meet in this building, and they are offering some great rates for either Sunday night (Feb 13th) or Monday night (Feb. 14th).

Remember guys, this is a 5 star ocean front, so don't be stingy. Rates are $179 for an ocean view without a balcony, and $199 for an ocean front with a balcony. There is also a $25 charge for all of your room goodies, coffee etc. during your stay, and $15 parking if you park at the hotel. There is generally lots of public parking close to the building. Ladies, As we begin a new year in our homes and churches, I thought it would be nice to try to stay more connected through our own little newsletter. If you would like to announce or share something with the other ladies in the fellowship, you can email it toMrsFLSunshine@juno.com. We would like to hear ideas for ladies groups, Bible studies you have used, banquet ideas, mission’s conference themes, etc. Some of you ladies have “been there, done that” and you are a fountain of knowledge. Some are “new” to the ministry and may have questions or new ideas to share. I know with many of us having jobs and/or children at home it is not always convenient to attend the monthly fellowship meetings. I pray you will try to come as often as possible, but also hope this newsletter will draw us closer in spirit.

Meet… Pam Jeffers I was born into a pastor’s home so the ministry was not a foreign concept to me, but I never pictured myself as the “pastor’s wife”. I attended Baptist Bible College (class of ‘79) where I met Dan, a youth major. Why did I not “know” that the youth ministry usually leads to the pastorate?!? God has led us around Florida - from Largo, to Orlando, to Lakeland and now to St. Petersburg. Each ministry has taught us something and we are still learning. God blessed us with 3 children who are saved, active in church and seeking God’s will for their lives. Our two grandchildren, Haleigh (4) and Logan (1) are a joy to have near and spoil.

This October we are honored to host the FBBF Meeting. Last year we had the November meeting within the

context of mission’s, as we kicked off our Missions Conference week. While mission’s is the heartbeat of our

church, we are excited to theme this year’s meeting “I love my Church.” Here’s what we would like to

accomplish. We want preaching that will encourage us in our calling as ministers, information and material

that will help us to be more effective as preachers and a time of great fellowship.

Here’s how you can help make this happen:

1. Come to the meeting. It will not be the same without you here. Please come and fellowship with us.

2. Email me one of your sermons or a series that we can reproduce for the pastors coming. My email

address is pastordave@orlandobaptist.com. I can use a podcast but I would like an outline or

manuscript too. This will be a great resource for all of us. I will add a few series the Lord has really

blessed in the last year at our church also. This will be a great resource for all pastors attending.

3. Bring a pastor who doesn’t normally or often come to the meetings. We will make him feel welcomed

and enjoy the fellowship with him.

4. Bring your wives and staff. We will have a special lunch and meeting for the wives and a very cool time

for the youth pastors.

Pastor Dale Brooks

Pastor Dale Brooks has been a friend in the ministry for 16 years. Dale was Associate Pastor at Orlando Baptist Church from 1994 to 2002. Since March of 2002, Dale has served as the Senior Pastor of Avalon Church. Avalon Church was started within the support of several of our Pastors in the FBBF. Avalon was a church plant out of First Coast Baptist Church in Jacksonville and Orlando Baptist Church in Orlando Florida. Dale’s practical education comes from spending 14 years in business and 18 years in full time ministry. Dale has a compassion for people that is visibly demonstrated through both his Sunday messages, and his weekday ministries. His faith, vision and enthusiasm have led Avalon Church to the place it is today with a beautiful new campus and an average Sunday attendance of 700. Dale and his wonderful wife, Leigh Anne, were married for 14 years prior to her death in April 2009. Dale loves his people, God’s church and he will have a great word on ‘loving the church’.

Pastor Jay Lowe

I have known Pastor Jay Lowe since I was a young boy in Miami and he is one of my dearest friends. Jay is

Senior Pastor of Liberty Baptist Church and founder and president of Liberty Christian School. He established

and helped build three other Churches before he and Mrs. Lowe came to St. Petersburg in 1970. During the

past 37 years, under his leadership, Liberty has helped sponsor more than 1500 Churches, schools and

orphanages through support of Church planters and missions in over 75 fields of the world. Jay has developed

many management materials used by secular and ministry teams. For us, Jay is a church man and Liberty

Baptist Church is one of the great testimonies of a thriving Great Commission Church, with a missions giving in

2008 in excess of $450,000 Jay will share great insight on ‘loving the church.’

Pastor Gordon Godfrey

Pastor Gordon Godfrey and I attended Baptist University of America in Atlanta together. Gordon was saved in 1972 in Montgomery, Alabama.. In 1991, he became Pastor of Fundamental Baptist Church in Pensacola,

Florida. The church experienced rapid growth and soon outgrew the buildings. The church voted to relocate

and changed the name to Marcus Pointe Baptist Church. Since 1991, the average weekly attendance has

climbed from 63 to more than 1400. The church has averaged more than 500 salvations and 350 new

members a year for more than 18 years. He and his wife June have three children: Becky, Greg, and Bobby.

They also have three granddaughters and one grandson. Jackson. An avid outdoorsman, Pastor Godfrey can

often be found in the woods hunting or in the gulf with a rod and reel. But more importantly Gordon will have

a great message for is on ‘loving our church.’
