Church Planter Report: Capital City Baptist 

   Thank you for your prayers and support as we continue to share the gospel in this very dark and needy city. Our theme for the year as a church is "Being Rooted In Christ", our goal is help those who are saved to better understand from the Bible how this can be applied to their every day lives. And teach them If we fail to do so, we cannot represent Christ  well. So, along with our theme people are challenged to make much of God's Word and many who are lost are hearing for the first time a clear presentation of the gospel. Please continue to pray for Capital City Baptist Church. I can see the Lord really working in the hearts of His people. Thank you as we continue to reach Tallahassee and the World together for Christ. Have a great Easter Sunday service.

BIO - Ken Scrubbs

Genesis Center was founded in 2008. Pastor Ken Scrubbs, one of six serving Pastors, of First Baptist Church, Leesburg, Florida, under the leadership of Senior Pastor Cliff Lea is credited as the visionary. First Baptist Church, Leesburg is seen as the leader in evangelical ministry and outreach, thus it is germane that they would see Pastor Ken’s vision for the mentoring program and recognize his decade of services, national service awards and years of commitment to this calling.

First Baptist Church family, purchased and designated the Main Street property, located at 1414 W. Main Street as the campus for housing various outreach programs for underserved youths. As the Executive Director, Pastor Ken began employing his Life to the Max, Inc., Model. He has since developed integrated models that are recognized throughout the country.

Though the Genesis Center campus is a designated property of First Baptist, Leesburg, it is an independent operation with an interdependent mission with First Baptist, Leesburg, Florida.

Pas­tor Ed and Kim Trin­kle have been lead­ing LIFE Church since April 2008. They have been mar­ried for 26 years and have 4 incred­i­ble daugh­ters who are all very active in local church min­istry! They are cel­e­brat­ing their 20th year in full time min­istry, and are enjoy­ing their new home in Aston, PA. Pas­tor Ed is an avid Philly sports fan.

Justin Gomez

Justin Gomez is the Worship & Generations Pastor of Grace Pointe Church and oversees all Worship, Technology, and Generations Ministries. Grace Pointe Generations Ministries include Four12 Youth and The Search Young Adult Community.

Pastor Justin studied music at Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, AL. Pastor Justin has been Worship Leader, songwriter, and producer for over a decade, and has worked with many artists including John Mandeville and Scott Krippayne.

Justin released his debut album "Be Glorified" in 2010, and is currently working on his sophomore album as well as his first book, "Worship Undignified"scheduled for release Summer 2012.

Pastor Justin was born in Honolulu, HI, and his wife Deanna was born in South Bend, IN. They met in Orlando, FL, and have been married since October of 2003. They have 2 sons and 1 daughter.

Russell Johnson

Russell Johnson was raised in Lima, Peru and grew up along with the mission work of his parents, Dr. Rudy & Lorraine Johnson.

While studying at North Texas State University, he served as associate pastor and minister of music at the Denton Baptist Temple. While there, he met and married Beverly Marshall in 1974. They are the parents of two children: Brenda, who works and ministers at IBB with her husband Francisco and daughter Hannah; and Ryan, along with his wife Sarah and sons Rylan, Nathan and Owen, are preparing to go to London as Missionaries.

After serving for several years in Texas, Russell felt God's leading to use his bilingual abilities to help reach the growing Hispanic population of the United States.

In 1976, the Johnsons moved to Miami to work with a team to establish the Spanish Baptist Bible Institute and the Bible Baptist Church. Today Russell still serves as pastor of IBB, an international church with people from over 28 countries in their congregation.

A Letter from our Chairman

First of all I want to say how much I appreciate Chuck Smith and his faithfulness to do the Sunshine Report for the last few years. As you know we are now going strictly online via email and our website. Chuck did a good job and we really appreciate his hard work.
I just came back from the national fellowship meeting in Fort Worth. It was a tremendous meeting. There were workshops on finances, church growth, children’s and youth ministry led by Pastor’s of great churches. I will be reporting on what is going on what is happening on a national level and in our colleges at the next meeting.
There was one theme that was prominent to me that really caused me to evaluate what we are doing at our church. Churches that are really growing are those reaching out into our community. We do a lot here at our church but not as much and we could be doing outside of our church. One speaker said he asks himself this question, “If our church were gone tomorrow would our community miss us?” That is a tough question to answer. In one respect they might not because darkness doesn’t really miss light. Darkness would rather light just go away. The point of the question is valid however. Are we making such an impact in our respective communities that people know we are here?
We hope to see you all in March. We are in the center of the state so we should have a good group at this meeting.

One of the things we do on a national level in February is to raise an offering for the Baptist Bible Tribune. Just like the Sunshine Report is how we as a state fellowship stay connected on a state level the Tribune connects us on a national level. It not only is informational but it is inspirational as well. The churches of the BBF help support this effort with an offering each year. If your church doesn’t get the Tribune , let me encourage you to call them or go their website and ask them to send it. If you can help out with an offering that would be a blessing. You can also get the Tribune online at Baptistbiblefellowship.org.

One last thing: Our president Linzy Slayden has challenged us as a fellowship to lead our churches to collectively give out 100,000 Bibles in the United States. He is calling it Mission Possible. His hope is that we purchase Bibles and give them out on Easter, VBS, Friend Days or however you want to accomplish this. If you can let me know how many you give out this year, I will relay that information back to him. Let’s get the Word Out!

USA Today Highlights FBBF Pastor

Ron Williams is the pastor of Church at the GYM in Sanford, Fla. As the Baptist church's name implies, Williams' congregation meets in a gym.

Williams says the goal is to remove the "stained-glass barriers" for people who might not be comfortable in traditional church settings.

"I think all the trappings of traditional religion can make it difficult for people to start coming," he said. "You can invite someone, and they will say, 'I don't have any clothes to wear to church.' "

To make people feel more comfortable, Williams wears jeans. In the warm Florida climate, some members wear shorts. Other clothing types, from urban wear to biker gear, also are welcome. Sanford native Sandy Adcox, 38, had not been to church in 18 years before she attended Church at the GYM last March. She hasn't missed a service since.

"I've never in my life felt more comfortable in a church," she said. "It's so warm and welcoming."

Seth Mulford has ministered as the youth director on staff at Grace Bible Baptist – Leesburg, FL since August 2003. He graduated from Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri, in May 2003 with a bachelor's degree in youth ministry. Seth and his wife, Jenn have two daughters and another child on the way.

Today is Pastor David Anderson’s Birthday. God bless him for spending his day with us! Bio information he sent us is as follows: “Short, Freckles, Red hair, Balding. Pastor for 32 years.” J He and Colleen have two children, the Senior Pastor of Faith Baptist in Sarasota and has been active with his father-in-law, Herman on “Coffee Club Live” TV www.ctnonline.com airing out of Largo on Fridays.

Dr. Rick Carter and wife Shannon (40+ years) have three children and six grandchildren. Dr. Carter has most recently served as lead Pastor of Canyon Creek Baptist Church, Richardson, Texas. Under his guidance, the church grew to an average attendance near 600. He also served as the Superintendent of Canyon Creek Christian Academy, with enrollment of over 600. The church supports 185 missionaries with a combined budget of $6 million. Currently he is working with the National Church Planting Office (NCPO) of the BBFI.
