Parenting from the Overflow

“A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.”
-Jesus Christ

Last month, we had our monthly pastor’s and youth pastor’s meeting, and it was a blast. In our youth pastor’s meeting we talked about being a dad. A couple of the youth pastors that have kids were giving those of us that are starting out as dads some advice. We some cool ideas and advice from some guys that really want to honor God and be good dad’s like:
-Know that your kids will be imitators of so many of the things you do and say
-Enjoy your kids
-Make the most of your time with them
- Make your marriage a priority
- Be a help around the house and with your kids
-Journal a little bit about your family life each day. It will encourage you to be involved and pray for your kids.
This really had me thinking of this whole overflow principle. I’m about to have little eyes and ears watching and imitating everything I do. I better make sure my heart is growing closer to God so that I can be the kind of example God wants me to be.
Thanks to my good friends Lee, Mark, Stephen, Nathan and Sheldon for the fellowship and encouragement today!

In the month of October we youth pastors will be meeting again. We'll be discussing the topic, "What should we be talking about with our students..." Be there for the discussion and to encourage each other. Also, come to support our fellow youth pastor, Nathan Braymer as he speaks at the meeting.
